Brighton Weekend Away | Travel Diary 2017.

If you haven't already gathered by now you'll begin to notice I loooove to travel. Whether that be abroad, in England or just spending a day away in a city. Whatever it might be I love to explore and see new sights.

On the top of our travel list has always been Brighton. I don't actually know why I couldn't tell you. Perhaps it was always a place mentioned to me by friends, family, or coworkers but whenever it was mentioned it was always with great response. As Alex and I had our eight year anniversary approaching (aww) we wanted to go somewhere not only to mark the date but because we figured we'd rather have memories together than actual material items- something we always pick actually. So, Brighton, it was! It's near enough to us not to have to travel far but far enough away to call it 'time away'. We got our sights on Airbnb- a place we have come to love since our worldwide travels and we managed to find the cutest cottage in Steyning. We didn't want to be in the centre of Brighton just slightly out so Steyning was perfect because it's only roughly 30 minutes in the car. We booked to stay on a Friday and Saturday night so it only required booking Friday off from work.

Turning up to an Airbnb can be daunting because you question how accurate the images are but seriously the minute I stepped into the cottage you couldn't wipe the smile off my face if you tried. I absolutely fell in love as did Alex. It was incredibly cosy and just the perfect setting for a Friday night in and in such a peaceful area. As we arrived around 3pm we explored Steyning high street and walked amongst the housing areas. It's a quaint little place with some very old buildings. But first thing was first-food! As we had missed lunchtime due to spending the morning/day at Weald and Downland (link to post) we were starving! We went into a little cafe called Truffles Bakery and enjoyed ourselves a cappuccino and shared one Portuguese tart and caramel doughnut. With a quick trip to The Sussex Produce co. to pick up some veggies and sausages for Sunday morning (we were going to have a fry up) it was back to the cottage to settle down after a lovely first day. What does a Friday night in call for?... a take away of course. It's very rare we have a takeaway (something we do roughly once a year) so it was a real treat- we decided on Indian which we consumed while binge-watching Orange Is The New Black.
(House of dreams, right.)

After what I'm sure was the best nights sleep, the alarm went off on Saturday morning at 8:15. After a somewhat leisurely morning, we took off at 9:30am and arrived in Brighton at 10am. Luckily we managed to get parking in Regency Square and I would definitely say we got there in good time because around 11:30 people were queuing up to park.
First thing was obviously first, a walk down to the water. We walked along the seaside before heading to the lanes where we picked up some doughnuts/cronuts from Dum Dum. As it was early morning we didn't want to carry them around all day so it was back to the car to leave them there. Back along the seafront (dying to find the loo) we basked in the sunshine and took in our surroundings. As breakfast had been light and it was now around 12:30 we headed for lunch at Wahaca. GO THERE. No, seriously, go. The food came so quickly and was so scrumptious! We decided to have a tapas lunch so ordered four choices from the menu and to drink I had the passionfruit& hibiscus cooler- wow.
Sufficiently full and happy we walked the lanes before settling at Boho Gelato- I had the rhubarb&custard and Alex had carrot cake which we enjoyed on the beach. Laying on that beach with the warm sun beating down on me I never felt so content. Alex eventually dragged me off so it was a walk down the pier and back to the lanes to enjoy some juice at '42 Juice'. We had a juice each which we drank outside in the glorious, warm sunshine and took home two of the 'mylks'. I would definitely recommend them as they're sooo tasty, not to mention healthy.
Not having been shopping we went to the big shops for a look see. We ended up in Urban Outfitters who had a photo booth in there which was hilarious because we always fail at them. No purchases made it was time to enjoy a fish&chips on the beach- we decided to share one as we can never finish them. Another walk along the seaside which was perfect with the sun setting. I was the happiest bunny leaving Brighton especially going back to our gorgeous cottage to binge on Dum Dum's and Orange Is The New Black. The most beautiful, and perfect day in Brighton.
(We had the Blueberry Cream, Salted Caramel & Lotus Biscuit and an Eat&Mess.)
(Chicken Tinga, Sweet Potato & Feta, Chorizo & Potato and Smokey Chicken & Avocado.)

On Sunday we had a relaxing morning thoroughly enjoying our fry up and 42 Juice mylks with Matilda on the iPad. We checked out at 12 and headed home but what a fantastic weekend.
